The most symbolic item in “The Grandfather” is the avocado tree the grandfather grew in his backyard. I think the avocado tree is the most symbolic item in the story because the grandfather worked very hard to try and grow the tree. In the story the avocado tree represents the grandfather because while his tree was growing stronger and stronger so was the grandrandfathers family. In the story the tree represents the narrator because when the tree was growing bigger and bigger so was the narrator at the same time.
